The Hall held an open house on October 20, 2014 in Seneca Falls to discuss the progress on the adaptive rehabilitation of the Seneca Knitting Mill which will become the Center for Great Women. We had a full house and answered many questions from the lively and interested participants.
The National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Florida Commission on the Status of Women hosted a Conversation with Great Women in West Palm Beach, Florida on October 10, 2014. The Conversation featured National Women’s Hall of Fall inductee Dr. Antonia Novello, Florida Women’s Hall of Fame inductee Louise Gopher, and West Palm Beach mayor Dr. Jeri Muoio. The moderator for the conversation was Jill S. Tietjen, P.E, President of the Board of Directors of the National Women’s Hall of Fame. The crowd was fascinated to hear the stories of the panelists’ lives and learn the amazing and personal stories of passion, determination, and persistence. 14-year old phenom Francesca Giorgianni sang The Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful. On May 7, 2014, almost 200 people gathered at the Seneca Knitting Mill in Seneca Falls, New York to celebrate the groundbreaking for the adaptive rehabilitation of this building which will be transformed into the Center for Great Women, the new home of the National Women’s Hall of Fame. Work began that day on the asbestos abatement and mill stabilization (which will include a new roof). That work will be completed in 2014.
The Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester was the host of the Hall’s first Corporate Roundtable at the end of March with a focus on mentoring. The attendees were welcomed by Dean Mark Zupan of the Simon School. Speakers described their mentoring experiences and attendees had an opportunity to discuss the issues more fully in breakout sessions.
The Hall, in association with the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific, was delighted to host a Conversation with Great Women in Sacramento, California. The Conversation featured two Hall inductees, Dr. Sylvia Earle and Dr. Judith Pipher, and the Provost of the University of the Pacific, Dr. Maria Pallavicini. The moderator for the conversation was The Honorable Allison Claire, of the United States District Court of the Eastern District of California. The crowd was spellbound during the almost two hour discussion which touched on all aspects of the panelists’ lives and provided amazing stories of passion, determination, and persistence. The National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame co-sponsored a Conversation with Great Women in Denver in August 2013. Hall inductee Emily Howell Warner was joined by two inductees from the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame, Cleo Parker Robinson (whose dancers entertained the attendees during the reception) and Sue Miller. Inductee Linda Alvarado was scheduled to join the conversation but her plane was diverted due to bad weather. Attendees enjoyed the reception and laughed and cried during the Conversation.
